Alta Pusteria
The Alta Pusteria Valley, which lies on the sunny side of
the Alps, is a hugely varied and natural location in the
midst of the land of the “pale mountains”, the Dolomites.
Imposing mountain massifs, sheer rock faces and picturesque
pastures shape the landscape of the eastern part of South
Tyrol, and this holiday region is thus extremely popular
with nature lovers and hikers. Visitors can stride along the
almost countless hiking trails and high alpine tracks seeing
fabulous flowers and grasses, carefully tended pastures and
refreshing mountain lakes on the way. You might even be
accompanied by one or two friends from the animal kingdom on
your trips of discovery through the breathtakingly beautiful
national parks, such as the Fanes-Senes-Braies or the Sesto
Dolomites parks. A visit to the Dobbiaco Wildlife Park is
also thoroughly recommended for animal lovers.
Without a doubt it is hiking and mountain climbing that set
the tone in the most easterly reaches of the region. Not for
nothing is the Alta Pusteria Valley described as the Land of
the Three Peaks, in honour of the both
distinctive and world
famous massif. Nevertheless this holiday paradise offers
many other attractive sports and leisure activities -
mountain bike riding, golf, swimming, tennis and many more
make sure that there is plenty of fun and variety for the
whole family. The colourful range of cultural activities is
also not to be sneezed at - magnificent fortresses and
castles, customs and traditions that have been maintained to
the present day, and educational museum visits all provide
the visitor with a fascinating insight into the region.
You’ll also be completely spellbound by the region in
winter. The Alta Pusteria Valley knows just how to show
itself from its most picturesque side in the colder months
of the year too! Family-friendly ski resorts, toboggan runs,
well-prepared cross-country tracks and snow for as far as
the eye can see - winter holidaymakers will love it here!
